Gydo Broos

Full Stack Developer

A bit about me

Welcome to my personal site! My name is Gydo (as you probably had discovered by now) and I am a Bachelor of Science graduated full stack developer. This means that I am home in multiple fields of development and design.

In my (relatively short) career I have explored many different areas of programming and design, but at the moment I am specialising in the field of webdevelopment. Here I have mastered the language PHP and use it in combination with HTML, SCSS/LESS and various JS frameworks.

But all this boring stuff you can ofcourse also find in my resume. You are probably more interested in what drove and is driving me to follow this carreer path and why I will fit in your company like a handmade glove!

The reason I became a developer/designer was and is finding opportunities to create, innovate and blow away. That last one might sound a bit over the top, but for me, a project is truly complete when something is created that is truly adding value to the daily life. Chances are that you've heared this before, but it's nothing but the truth.

Now that you got to know a bit more about me personally, I would advice to scroll a bit more down and have a look at my portfolio.

A project to make finding parties easier. Learned a lot from this one. The biggest learning was, however, to not rely too much on a third party. The search functionality was highly dependent on Facebook, so as soon as they changed some API policies I ran into problems. I could have build a workaround for the issue but, saw this as a sign to move on to something else.

Afvalgemak

Afvalgemak is Dutch for ease of garbage. Yes, garbage, the leftovers of every household that usually gets picked up on weekly basis by the government. In Utrecht, there was a policy change that made people walk 500m to deposit their garbage in a central container of the neighborhood. This made me think of a little pickup service to earn some extra money for my trip to Australia. This website was the result of this idea.

Zeo Support Portal

After I had setup the support system, so Zeo could manage their incoming support requests, I still had time to spare. So I decided, after doing some research, that it would add value to create a customer portal where the clients could go to track their ticket progress and answer their own questions with a knowledge base.

I also planned to setup a little home website for the Charlie serie. Unfortunately, I didn't get the time yet to build onto this idea further. For now, it will just stay with this design, but I am planning to continue with this idea in the near future.

Flying Far Game

After playing around a bit with the Unity Engine I thought it would be fun the create a small mobile game. This is how Charlies Journey: Flying Far was born. It is a little side scrolling game designed for Android devices. The goal of the game is to fly little Charlie's balloon as far as possible without hitting any on the way. His balloon can receive some damage, but each hit will make it harder to fly.

It's still up in the Google Play Store, check it out!
